I’m a writer and editor who’s spent years covering topics as diverse as gun control to food policy to where to play Pokemon Go in your city–yes, I really did write an article on that. And no, I never played.
Alas, when COVID hit and there weren’t as many writing assignments to pursue, I took some time to study plant-based nutrition online from Cornell University. Hence, my interest in the “movement” grew and I dove in, going so far as cutting all animal products out of my diet for a full year. Now, I have a bit of a softer approach and though I’m not a big meat eater by any means, I do:
- Eat a lot of egg whites (I don’t like the yolk, and I only buy pasture-raised eggs)
- Use dairy in my coffee
- Splurge on triple-cream brie and other divine cheeses
- Eat a lot of seafood (but am very selective and will not buy anything on the Seafood Watch “avoid” list)
- Cook meat for my family
- Occasionally eat a few bites of steak (only locally raised, and never poultry—I just don’t like it)
And so, that’s a little bit about me, and the inspiration behind this blog. If you want to know a bit more about my “stance” on topics, keep reading (or peruse the blog). And if you want to know more about what really makes me “tik” you can read about my background. Want to know more about me professionally, head over to LinkedIn.
Scenes from Behind the Blog

Plant-based diets aren’t anything new …
Even if the concept is trending and yeah, yeah, yeah, I used the word “trend,” but make no mistake, while the terminology is popping up everywhere from fast-food restaurants to local farmers markets, and world-wide everyone from big-name celebrities to high-profile athletes to everyday people are exploring the plant-forward lifestyle, this movement (if you will) is much more than a trend. En vogue, yes, but a trend? Nah, it’s much more than that. READ MORE.
When local isn’t really local …
Consumers are willing to pay more for locally produced foods. But what if the products you buy that are labeled local really aren’t local at all? A spokesperson for the FDA confirmed that the term local is not defined on the federal level and “can be used by companies as long as it is used in a truthful and not misleading way.” READ MORE.

A note about body positivity …
Body positivity. Fat and fit. Straight size. Real women have curves. Blah, blah, blah …
- 10.5% of the U.S. population has diabetes
- 34.5% of the adult U.S. population has prediabetes with an estimated 21.4% undiagnosed
- 36% of the U.S. adult population is obese; another 32% are overweight
- AND 19.3% of those under the age 2-19 are obese
And this is unacceptable. Completely and totally unacceptable. Yet this movement of body positivity and “fat but fit” and “size acceptance” is running the world like a moron bot has taken over and people are falling for it. And I don’t get it. READ MORE
Living responsibly & loving fiercely …
I believe everyone should live passionately in the kitchen and out. And by advocating a plant-based diet, responsible agriculture, sustainable seafood, conscious living, eco travel and all things wicked … I try to do just that, every day. So, welcome, to my flexitarian kitchen.
