Violife’s Plant-based Cheese—the only vegan cheese that’s actually good

There are a gazillion non-dairy cheese on the market but knowing which one(s) to try and which ones to let someone else try (sorry but I’ve been the guinea pig too many times when it comes to stuff like this) can be a confusing, if not somewhat overwhelming decision.

Violife’s Just Like Feta 100 percent vegan and certified by the Non-GMO Project.

I remember the first time I bought a non-dairy cheese … it was probably close to 20 years ago. I don’t know why I bought it but if I had to guess, I’d say I was probably on one of my “odd” food kicks and decided “why the hell not.” I can’t really say as I remember what it tasted like, in fact, I’m not even sure if I tasted it all, but I do know it didn’t melt. Like at all. I sprinkled it over tortilla chips, put it in the microwave all the while anticipating a plate full of melted goodness but alas, all I got was some gross-looking plate of crap.

So, while I haven’t attempted to make nachos with this product or much of anything, what I can tell you is this … it’s really, really, really good. The flavor is similar to a mild feta, but the texture is akin a semi-soft cheese. Sort of like mozzarella but not stringy by any means. It’s absolutely lovely just eaten by itself or “spread” on multigrain toast, but it’s also perfect for adding to salads … my favorite, an overflowing bowl of green with raspberry walnut vinaigrette, sliced strawberries, a few pine nuts (or walnuts), and a few substantial hunks of Violife’s Just Like Feta. In fact, this is so good that I just might have to try the company’s Just Like Cheddar on some homemade corn tortilla chips.
